The hardest part of coming back isn’t the workout. It’s not knowing what the first two weeks should even look like — so you either do too much and get wrecked, or do nothing and stay stuck.
Here’s the exact restart plan we walk beginners through at Gimme Fit in San Dimas.
Week 1: show up three times. That’s the goal.
Not “crush it.” Not “make up for lost time.” Just get in the door three times. Each session is coached and scaled to exactly where you are today, not where you were in the spring. You should leave feeling like you had a little more in the tank. That’s on purpose — soreness that keeps you out for four days is a bad trade in week one.
Week 2: add a little load, keep the schedule
Same three days, same times. Now we nudge the weight or the pace up a notch. The schedule is the real skill you’re building here. Once your Monday/Wednesday/Friday slot is locked, “should I go today” stops being a daily debate.
What makes the restart stick
- Sessions scaled to your level, so nothing feels impossible or pointless.
- A coach who knows your name and notices when you’re gone.
- A set class time, so the decision is already made for you.
Two weeks is the whole test
Most people who quit, quit before day 14. They never get to the part where it starts feeling normal. Get through two weeks and you’re past the hardest stretch of the entire comeback.
