3 reasons why I eat the same breakfast 365 days a year

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day they say. But with more and more research coming out on eating routines such as fasting, our views on breakfast is starting to shift. Personally, whether I’m on an intermittent fasting routine or not, I consider breakfast a meal that I must have either first thing when I wake up or even late into the afternoon.

What I Eat For Breakfast

My breakfast is a quick and simple oats recipe that varies slightly every 6 months or so.


Rolled Oats
Chia Seeds
Cocoa Powder (Unsweetened)
Vanilla Almond Milk (Unsweetened)
Vanilla Greek Yogurt
Frozen Mangoes

Prep (~2 minutes):
I usually keep all my dry ingredients in large containers to limit the frequency where I have to stop for ingredients. I throw everything into a bowl in the order the ingredients are listed, and just eat it like that. If you prefer your food hot, then throwing it into the microwave for a minute can help solve that problem.

You can probably tell now that there’s really nothing special about what I have for breakfast, so here are the reasons why I actually choose to stick to this meal 365 days a year.

Convenient and Time Saving

Whenever I ask people what’s the reason why they fail to prepare, or even cook, their meals, it’s usually the same answer every single time – I just don’t have time for it. I’ll admit, there’s definitely a learning curve to cooking and preparing your meals ahead of time, but once you get the hang of it, the concept is actually focused around saving you time. I became obsessed with the idea of cooking my meals quickly when I was in college, and that’s one of reasons why I insist that everyone gives it a shot before they worry about wasting their time. Trust me, if you follow this recipe and are willing to eat the same breakfast 7 days a week, you can even cut down the prep time to under 5 minutes for those 7 meals. I don’t think it gets any better than that.

Meet Nutrient Needs

This is one of the big problems that we face today in society. Our diets are filled with highly-processed and low-nutrient foods that just don’t satisfy the body’s needs. One of those nutrients is fiber – in this case, insoluble fiber. I used to experience digestive issues all the time, so starting out, I just decided to eat a ton of fiber and see what the result was. Now I feel a significant change in digestion from what I experienced in the past – almost to the point where I feel digestive slowdowns on days when I don’t get enough fiber in.

Reduce Decision Making

I hate having to make extra decisions, and I bet you feel the same way. Whether it’s figuring out what to wear in the morning or when your friends tell you to decide on a restaurant to go eat at after work, having to make so many decisions just plain wears us out. One of the primary benefits of keeping your breakfast set is that I have not had to worry about what I’m going to eat for breakfast for the past year – with the exceptions of vacations and breakfast dates.

If you haven’t tried preparing your own breakfast yet, give it a shot. Not only will you save a ton of time and money, but you’ll also be in control of fulfilling your body’s nutrient needs that are SO important in helping you maintain your energy levels throughout the day.
